Tom Misch and HONNE are our favorite Karpos Live acts

The duo was back to play another show for their Filipino fans, and we’ll say it again: HONNE is
one of the best acts you can catch live. —PHOTOS FROM KARPOS MULTIMEDIA

It only took Tom Misch’s “Geography” album cover to appear on screen for the crowd to go completely crazy. With the lights over the stage still shut off, the British artist’s “Before Paris” monologue started to play.

“I play regardless whether I get a paycheck or not. You have to love this thing, man, and breathe it. It’s like your morning coffee, it’s your food. That’s why you become an artist,” the British musician said before switching to his slick guitar riffs.

The guy knows how to throw a party even with just a guitar at hand. The songs “Lost In Paris,” “Movie” and “You’re on My Mind” all share a formula. Misch heightens the mood with his contemporary renditions (or deconstructions) of jazz, before he pulls back the tempo leaving listeners perplexed with the smooth transitions and heartfelt lyrics.

One of his more upbeat tracks, “South of the River,” got the crowd bopping to the bass beats and catchy guitar licks. While Misch remained standing, focusing on grooving with his strings, the Karpos Live stage hosted a riot of colors following the inviting melodies of “It Runs Through Me,” and “Cos I Love You.”

There’s no doubt that Misch sounded as good as he did on the record, and truth be told the groovy “Disco Yes” is still playing in our heads.

This Mix 2.1 headliner goes head to head with crowd-favorite HONNE. While concert-goers can count on Misch’s dreamy yet snappy hits and (as his lyrics go) “sentimental way to groove,” they turn to HONNE’s captivating songs of vulnerability polarized with pulsating energy. With an enjoyably distinct rock sound live, the duo didn’t fail to bring yet another eargasmic experience that crosses all popular genres.

A great show can always be expected from HONNE. And with the new songs from their latest album “Love Me/Love Me Not,” they had a string of foolproof crowd-favorite tracks in their setlist. The night’s most memorable anthems were “Warm on a Cold Night,” “Good Together,” and frontman Andy Clutterbuck’s special song, “Day 1.”

“Manila, can we come back every year?” HONNE asked the crowd. As early as now, we can guarantee this electronic duo that Filipino fans will be there at every show.

Now we can’t wait for the next concert: Mix 2.2 happening this Oct. 6 at the Vertis North Tent. It will be headlined by indiefolk band Ben&Ben and acoustic singer Clara Benin. With this lineup, we are promised yet another chill evening, with nothing but a wonderfully emotional sound trip.
