Lighten up your lampshades

MATERIALS: plain lampshade and decals

Here is how you can reinvent or update the look of any room by adding a little flair to a lampshade. If you’re tired of the ordinary white or plain-colored lampshade, redesign it by adding decals to the surface of the shade. This is an easy way to give new life to your room.

You can get beautiful decals from Dexterton in Greenbelt 5.  They are available in different designs.  You can also run to the fantastic Japan Home Center, otherwise known as the P88 store, where they have fun decals in different designs.  Cut them to size or cut around the design or pattern you like, and stick them onto the surface of your lamp.

You can also purchase ordinary sticker paper at National Book Store and, using your own original designs, cut out patterns and shapes.  Go a step further and embellish the decals with little crystal beads; all you have to do is glue them on, and the facets will create kaleidoscope prism effects. Try adding a trim around the edges by using ribbons or fabric cut into strips.  Use fabric glue or sew them on. Highlighting the lampshade with a border will frame your design and give focus to your creation.

Use your imagination and create fun and stylish looks. This activity will really light up any room.
