A 73-year-old man from Fort Edward, New York got lucky by bagging $10 million (around P540.3 million) in the lottery — all because he stopped over at the store to buy dog treats.

Dale Ferrand is the newest winner of the local Cash Spectacular lottery game commissioned by the New York Lottery, as announced on Monday, Sept. 10.

The lucky winner recalled he stopped over Cumberland Farms, a local convenience store, to buy treats for his dog, Boots. From there, he thought about trying his luck and bought a ticket.

“I scratched it in the car and started shaking when I realized I won,” Ferrand recalled of his winning moment. He then went home straight to his wife to check the ticket for him. He added: “She was a lot more excited than I was.”

However, Ferrand will take home only $6,718,000 (almost P362 million) due to required withholdings. Still, he is happy with his win and already has plans on how to spend his prize.

“I’ll use the money to pay off the mortgage and help out our children and grandchildren,” Ferrand said, adding that the prize money will also be used for home improvements. JB
