YANGON — A figurative bronze sculpture of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi will be put up for sale by auction in order to raise money for charity, said Dr Thant Thaw Kaung, executive committee member of the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation.

The auction will be jointly organized by the foundation and Sedona Hotel Yangon.

“At the auction, the sculpture will be sold for Ks50 million, a glassware vase for Ks2 million and a jade beads necklace for Ks10 million. These are the floor prices. The reason why we want to hold an auction is that foreign scholars highly respect Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. It is a gesture of honoring her. This is for charity purposes. The money will go to the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation for public welfare,” said Dr Thant Thaw Kaung at a press conference on holding the second ceremony to raise a fund for the foundation.

The auction will be held at the Charity Gala dinner on October 5.

The sculpture was created by award-winning Norwegian professional artist Merete Sejersted Bødtker. Another item that will be put up for auction is a glassware vase created by Andrea Hyniova, Design Director of Traditional Czech Crystal Co., Ltd. A Jade Beads Necklace was donated by Myint Tun Oo Gems and Jewellery.

These items were donated by the artists as contributions to the Foundation’s fund-raising activities. The Charity Gala Dinner will be held at Sedona Hotel Yangon on October 5.

Tickets for the Charity Gala Dinner are on sale from today at Sedona Hotel Yangon on a first-come-first-served basis at a price of USD 100 nett per person.

Themed “Music & Memories”, the event will host more than 300 guests in Sedona’s Grand Ballroom with entertainment helmed by popular personalities, Tin Moe Lwin and Maung Maung Aye, and featuring a mix of international and local artistes including singer Ni Ni Khin Zaw, Taiwanese pianist Ying-Hua Huang, Myanmar violinist Siss Thwae, and Malaysian Soprano Yiling Chaing with Brazilian Pianist Priscilla Dantas.
