Beauty lessons from Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week pulled out all the beauty stops this season, focusing on feminine, sumptuous beauty looks with a creative twist. We look at three of the biggest hair and makeup trends spotted on the catwalk.

Disheveled hair

Hair was perfectly imperfect at several of the shows, with multiple designers opting for loose styles and messy textures. Fendi teamed its top knots with girlish, face-framing tendrils, while Giorgio Armani piled frizzy curls high on the models’ heads for a mussed-up look. At Roberto Cavalli, the hair was left slightly tangled and textured for a nonchalant vibe, while the models at Jil Sander sported windswept-looking styles.

Eyeliner took center stage at several shows — most notably at Marni, where graphic, exaggerated cat-eye shapes made for a beauty look with attitude. At Prada, it was used to draw surreal-looking lashes onto the models’ faces, while Versace used it to outline the winged shapes created with shimmery aqua blue shadow.

Bold eyeshadow

Bold colors were all the rage when it came to eyeshadow at Milan. Missoni had everyone talking with a look that featured icy blue shimmer dabbed at the inner corners of the eyes, for an iridescent look, while Armani put a springtime twist on things with bold rose gold tones. At Byblos, deep red was the color of choice, clashing festively with the multicolored tinsel clip-in bangs. NVG
