A family in Virginia, United States had a rather strange postal problem — not only was their mail stolen, but in its place, a laminated photo of a llama was left behind.

Staci Tinney first observed a black truck in her property based on CCTV footage, she said in a WCHS report on Monday, Oct. 8.

Tinney saw a woman in the passenger side of the truck. From there, the woman opened Tinney’s family mailbox, took the mail, then put something in as a replacement.

“What was disturbing is we were home at the time,” Tinney said in the report. She said some neighbors have also previously complained about stolen mail.

“While the police were here, the truck was down at the park-and-ride at the same time,” she was quoted as saying. “Someone told them [the suspects] the police were looking for them, and they left — but not before showing them a picture of a llama and saying they were handing out wedding invitations.”

This was not the first time Tinney was a victim of theft, as she revealed, “They stole my garbage from the trash can at the house, not at the road, and we knew that was for identity theft.”

While the strange case is being investigated by authorities, what Tinney could only do is warn the rest of her neighbors and take extra precautions.

“We don’t know anybody who knows a llama personally and definitely no one who gave us blank pictures of a llama as a wedding invitation,” she added. Katrina Hallare/JB
