On gala night Oct. 17 of ManilArt Fair at SMEX, SM Aura, Taguig, the “Memory Maker’s Boudoir” exhibit at the VIP Lounge will be launched via a performance by multimedia artists representing the Goddess of Memory, Mnemosyne, and her retinue.

Opening simultaneously on the third floor of the atrium is a show by the Portrait Artists Society of the Philippines Inc., led by Romulo Galicano. Their paintings will pay homage to Rene Magritte.

“Memory Maker’s Boudoir” is curated by surrealist Gromyko Semper, with paintings, sculptures and installations by Isobel Francisco, Cozy Cozythrias, Kat Malazarte, Ben John Lincod, Rachel Anne Lacaba, Ginoe Ojoy, JC Peñaflorida, Roman Padilla, Herminio Tan, Angelo Padilla and Maria Magdamit, and a video installation by Ali Alejandro.

The fair will be open to the public Oct. 18 and will run until the 21st at SM Aura, although outdoor banners of the artworks exhibited in ManilArt 2018 will be mounted later around Fort Santiago and Intramuros in Manila as well as in Poblacion Makati in celebration of October as Museums and Galleries Month.

For students and crafts enthusiasts, painter Bing Famoso Tac-an will conduct a demonstration of fabric-painting. Tac-an is known for marrying art and advocacy: She holds crafts workshops in orphanages. She’s in fact raising funds through her art for Alab Pinas, Aleb Marawi, the movement seeking to rehabilitate Marawi after the Isis attacks in 2017.

During the weekend, the Philippine Postal Office will launch the commemorative stamp collection marking ManilArt’s 10th anniversary.

ManilART 2018 is co-presented by the NCCA and Bonafide Art Galleries Organization.
