I know that’s it just Monday but most of us already have a long weekend in mind this early. With the respite from the usual work schedule, I can tell how a lot of you will be traveling. I’ve also got the same idea.

For most of us, the only downside to traveling is packing, it can be a stress. But when it comes to short trips, I think you shouldn’t worry as long as you’re smart with what’s in your carry-on. There are a few tricks that will see you through your quick getaway.

1. Think small

When I’m on a trip abroad, I carry a minimized version of my passport’s information page. It’s a lifesaver and it helps lessen risks. You keep your passport in the safe of your hotel room yet you still have enough primary identification should the need arise.

2. Always bring a scarf

Scarves are multipurpose and they can be useful for any kind of trip. They keep you warm when it’s a bit chilly but you can also use it as an accessory. You can also knot two scarves together to use as a beach bag. I also use it on the plane when I sleep, placing it over my pillow to make it extra comfy.

3. Zip ties are your friends

I carry a few zip ties in my carry-on. Primarily so that I can easily secure my bag in case the lock breaks. They are handy for the most likely emergencies.

4. Bring a whole outfit
Even if you have check-in luggage, it’s always smart to carry an entire outfit in your carry-on. You never know when you’d need to change clothes. It’s also a safe bet in case you’re luggage gets delayed.

5. Use pouches
I like using pouches for everything in my carry-on. It makes it easier to keep track of what you have. Plus it also guides you on what you should bring: a set of clothes, makeup and bathroom necessities, electronics and cables, etc.
