Miss World Philippines 2018 Katarina Rodriguez shared on Friday how joining international organization Save the Children changed her perspective about motherhood.
In an Instagram post, Rodriguez said she never had any interest to bear a child prior to joining the organization in 2016: “I had no interest in having children of my own-then, what seemed odd to me, having my own family started to consume my daydreams.”
The “maternal drive” felt foreign to the 26-year-old beauty queen, but eventually, she realized “it was normal & okay and I graciously accepted that I am becoming a woman.”
Before that day comes, Rodriguez said she needed to make something of herself first to make her future children proud.
“I promised I would give back to this world and help it in any way I could as I strongly believe that it’s my responsibility,” she said.
Rodriguez expressed her desire to work specifically for children because she believed “they are the future of our world” no matter how people have heard this over and over again.
Save the Children is an organization that focuses on the nutrition of children living in extreme conditions. It aims to provide “basic necessities such as clean water, food, peace, etc.”
Rodriguez first came to prominence in 2014 when she finished in the Top 3 at “Asia’s Next Top Model.”
She placed first runner-up in Miss Intercontinental in January and was crowned Miss World Philippines 2018 in October.
Rodriguez will be vying for the Miss World 2018 title at Sanya, China on December 8, 2018.
