Amigos de España en Cebu held a special meeting at Salon Barcelona of the Casino Español de Cebu. It served as an advance birthday celebration for Amparito Llamas Lhuillier, the group’s president emeritus.
Leading the happy group were president Myra Gonzalez, vice president Susan Sala, secretary Anna Marie Dizon, and treasurer Julina Muertegui.
They sang the birthday song in Spanish and Amparito blew the candles on the cake with great enthusiasm. Among those present were Carmen Martinez, Angie Mathieu, Paqui Aboitiz, Quina Melendez, Vivina Yrastorza, Lourdes Narcise, Annie Aboitiz and Teresin Mendezona.

On the eve of her birthday Amparito was feted with an elegant dinner hosted by her children Michael and Joanna (nèe Maitland-Smith) Lhuillier at their home in Maria Luisa Park.
Ball
The Casino Español de Cebu held its traditional reception and ball to celebrate Día de la Hispanidad on Oct. 13. Receiving the guests were the president Paco Jarque with his pretty wife Monique del Gallego Jarque.
Down the reception line were the rest of the officers and their spouses: secretary Gabby Leyson with Tina; treasurer Rene Kintanar with Joy; house chair Eduardo Gonzalez with Therese; director for cultural events Javi Sala with Kaye; and sports director Clementino Diez III with Joan Joy.
The event was made more significant by the presence of Spanish Ambassador Jorge Moragas, Consul General Fernando Heredia, and Instituto Cervantes director Carlos Madrid.
Also present was a delegation from Casino Español de Manila—Ramon del Gallego, Gabriel Ripoll Jr., Francisco Eizmendi and Jack Rodriguez. They sat with former Casino Español de Cebu president Cuco del Gallego.
Present were the honorary consul of Spain in Cebu Anton Perdices and his beautiful wife Maripaz. His parents, Tintoy and Maricar Perdices, were present.
Cebu’s On The Governor Band was around to dish dance music. The club’s general manager May Ocaba was congratulated for the buffet dinner served. Spanish wines flowed all night.
Since Nov. 1 Casino Español de Cebu has a reprise of Bernardo Losada as food and beverage consultant, a stint he did a year ago. The son of Myra Gonzalez and the Count of Palancar, Bernardo normally resides in Sevilla, Spain.
