Considered to be the biggest event showcasing and celebrating the beauty of the terno, the Ternocon organized by Bench and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) will showcase the designs of 30 participants and those of JC Buendia, Len Cabili and Cary Santiago.
This will be on Nov. 11 at CCP.
Thirty participants from 17 provinces designed a daytime cotton terno and formal terno for the competition. These participants were mentored by the country’s foremost designers, Buendia, Cabili, Sotto and Santiago, on the modern methods of terno making.
“I wanted to make the terno appealing to the younger generation,” Buendia said.
For the CCP show, Buendia made several two-piece terno separates which the wearer can mix and match.
“You can use the top with your ball skirt or cigarette pants,” he explains.
He has more design ideas— inabel wrap skirt paired with a T-shirt or a sweater.
“The possibilities are endless and are Instagram-worthy,” he says.
Cabili’s creations are an interplay of T’boli embroidery with shell beadwork—all done by hand.
“These are basically our best-selling pieces which we transformed into a terno,” she said. “Our aim is to create a terno that can be worn every day.”
On this spread are terno with a touch of pop and modern art.
Lifestyle does an exclusive shoot of the terno creations by Buendia and Cabili, set amid the rich images at Solaire Resort and Casino.
Whoever thought that the day would come when the terno would be shot in the ultra-modern resort setting?
It just proves how current the terno is.
