Cosmetics no answer, says Archbishop Tagle

MANILA, Philippines—The secret to staying young is not through using cosmetics and anti-aging products but in leading a life that hews closely to the Sto. Niño’s, and always being helpful to one’s neighbors, according to Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle.

At a Mass marking the Feast of the Sto. Niño in Tondo, Manila, on Sunday, Tagle drew attention to the world’s “fascination” with youth and the wrong notions of being young-looking and childlike.

“Everybody wants to be ageless… the world has a fascination with staying young,” noted Tagle in Filipino.

But youth enhancement products, he emphasized, were all directed at external looks while true youthfulness came from within.

“Don’t be swayed by beauty products that promise to keep you young… just follow God and be loving to your neighbors and you will forever be a child,” he said.

“By being obedient to the Father, Christ continued to be a child and that’s what the Sto. Niño wants us to emulate,” he said.
