Filipino designer la Coca clinched a spot as finalist of Brisbane Fashion Runway’s Designer of the Year after presenting six exclusive looks last October 27 in Tivoli, Brisbane.
La Coca’s runway look showcased a play on the “classic silhouettes blended with exuberant details, surrealistic dimensions, and lots of volume.”
“Filipino creativity and talent in fashion design is truly world class and we are starting to receive a lot of attention in Australia,” said Chargé d’ Affaires Jim Tito B. San Agustin of the Philippine Embassy in Australia in a statement on Monday.
“We are proud to have Ia Coca showcase his fine work at the prestigious Brisbane Fashion Runway and wish him the best of luck in this competition,” San Agustin added.
La Coca, who graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design & Arts Cebu in 2016, was among eight other designers from various countries vying for the award.
He also represented the Philippines in World Fashion Week in Malaysia in 2017.
Other finalists are Moreno Marcos, Pale Jade by Camilla Jade, Annie Lee, JJM Afro Couture, U.U, Discotonic and Kimbralou. /cbb
