A Filipino may have bagged the coveted post of Vogue Hong Kong editor in chief.
A source from Hong Kong told us that the Conde Nast title, which debuts in spring 2019, has named its top editor—and it’s not a Hong Kong local or someone from China, as widely speculated.
Our source said Miguel Mari, co-founder and former creative director of Rogue Magazine, has bagged the top editor post of the Conde Nast title. Mari was also creative director of the now-defunct L’Officiel Manila.
An Oct. 29 article on South China Morning Post reported that Desiree Au has been appointed publisher of the glossy. Au was the publisher of Time Out Hong Kong.
The article—which also quoted Conde Nast International chair and chief executive Jonathan Newhouse and managing director of brand licensing Markus Grindel—said, however, that the executives didn’t “elaborate on editorial appointments, which suggests that key positions have yet to be filled.”
Mari did not reply to Lifestyle’s messages.
Vogue Hong Kong will be the fashion bible’s 26th edition. It will be published in traditional Chinese for the print edition, bilingual (English and Chinese) in the online edition.
The Hong Kong edition will be Vogue’s third foray into Southeast Asia. It launched in Thailand in 2013, and in Singapore in 1994 before it was shuttered in 1997. –CVM
