Artist Jay Ragma continues his experiments with symmetry, establishing borders on all planes, in “Point of Entry,” which opens at Galerie Joaquin Podium on Nov. 21.
Solid and bold colors activate an apparent void; a surface opens a window into the paintings, both mirroring and obscuring the view.
With complex symmetry, the space becomes charged, resonating with implied speed and curve. These interactions seem to extend beyond the edges of the paintings, shifting perceptions of scale and perspective.
The artist pays attention to the formal aspects of composition; creating a rhythm with the repetition of lines. The forms created are balanced not just with geometric lines, but also patterns, which become the underlying structure, creating a movement in the compositions.
