A holiday arrangement

Everything is all a-glitter, with Christmas just around the corner. Your turn to try your hand at what may look like a complicated arrangement.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Fairy lights (Landmark, True Value or NEST have  battery-operated ones.)

Green Christmas balls and a glass vase (SM home)

Dry floral foam or oasis (At Dangwa near Dapitan Street or Morning Glory in Divisoria)

Faux flowers (SM or Landmark)

Glue gun

Scotch tape

Here’s how:

1) In a glass vase, put the fairy lights and Christmas balls.  When the balls and lights go up to the rim, cut out dry floral foam  to fit, and top off glass cylinder.

2) To secure foam, cross over Scotch tape and secure till the rim of glass container. After you secure foam, you can start arranging assorted foliage, flowers, berries and balls (from Rustans, Landmark and SM home).

Tip: Before you insert the items into the foam, you can apply hot glue (using a glue gun) to the ends of the items; this will secure them in the foam and keep them in place.

Also, start with putting leaves around the container’s rim. This will serve as the base of your arrangement and help camouflage the foam.

3) Start inserting the flowers into the foam.

Tip: Start with the biggest flower or item you have, insert into foam evenly, then start building up, filling up the  spaces between or around the inserted flowers with other elements like berries, other floral varieties, Christmas balls, and leaves.

Also, when incorporating Christmas balls, remove the crown (the portion where you hang the ornament); yank it off and you will see a hole. Insert a barbecue stick into the hole (to desired length) and secure with hot glue.

Use a nice mix of colors and elements.

Here we have a soothing pastel-colored holiday arrangement. We used  soft hues of pink, light green and powder blue, and snowy pine leaves.
