On all caps, the people behind Citizen Jake announced on a Facebook post yesterday that Mike De Leon’s comeback film (after 17 years!) has now a screening date and venue. Mark your calendars and reserve as early as you can—Mar. 13, Cine Adarna at the University of the Philippines Diliman.

Last year, we thought Citizen Jake will somehow be the Metro Manila Film Festival’s (MMFF) saving grace. However, in October, De Leon condemned the film festival—its culture of corruption and dubious selection process. He made clear that the film isn’t joining and “not even considering joining” the MMFF.
“Corruption has returned in full force to this festival that purports to make children happy during the holiday season, a euphemism for profit and greed,” the veteran filmmaker wrote in a Facebook post. This was after a reliable source told him that should he wish to join, Citizen Jake is definitely in.
Citizen Jake is about “the world of citizen journalists, social media, and politics,” as De Leon puts it. It follows the story of a critical journalist Jake Herrera (played by Atom Araullo who also co-authored the script).
Renowned actors and actresses Cherie Gil, Nonie Buencamino, Dina Bonnevie, and Teroy Guzman among others join Araullo.
