‘How ‘baboy naman’ the pig!’

Your mantra for the week: “I am anticipating the miracles and wonders that await me now and in the coming year.”

Everyone desires to have more abundance in the coming year. On Feb. 5, the year of the Pig begins. In Oriental Astrology, it opens the gates of all forms of plenty.

In IAMISM, the first thing we do to assure us of a good harvest is to tithe—known as the magic number of increase. After complying with this most important principle, here are some practices worth making a habit of:

Speak only of the abundance you see, and overlook anything that seems to be of lack and limitation.

Imagine, for example, the many trees in the forest and the wonderful schools of fishes in the world. When you need to uplift yourself, think that every second of the day, a baby laughs, and every five seconds, someone says “I love you.”

In the process, all talks of violence, diseases and disasters must be avoided. Moreover, go out of your way and take note of every beautiful thing that you see using your gadget.

Share every good news you hear, and avoid passing on all forms of bad news.

Praise the abundance that you do not yet see, for as you praise this, it becomes visible.

Learn to live in the positive stream of life—optimism always wins in the end.

Throughout the year, your thoughts should be centered on the ideas of great bounty, self-sufficiency and well-being. Always remember that God is your instant, constant supply and that saying “thank you” will bring you more blessings than you can ever imagine.

Crisologo-Puno nuptials

Last week, Dec. 27, marked the wedding of Edrix Crisologo and Renee Puno at Saint James the Great church in Ayala Alabang, followed by a reception at Bellevue Manila.

Gracing the event were a few hundred people, led by the groom’s parents, Quezon City 1st District Rep. Vincent Crisologo and wife Rita, and the bride’s parents, lawyer Rene Puno and wife Ann who’s a chef.

Among the principal sponsors were Davao del Norte 1st District Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, Maguindanao Rep. Zajid Mangudadatu, Narvacan Councilor Chavit Singson, Mambajao Mayor Jurdin Jesus Romualdo, Bukidnon Gov. Jose Ma. Zubiri Jr., Antipolo Rep. Cristina Roa-Puno, honorary consul to Angola Helen Ong, lawyers Ma. Elizabeth Peralta-Loriega and Rosella Priscilla Mapa, and Ronaldo Puno.

Renee was radiant in an Ito Curata creation at the wedding rites, and glamorous in a Vania Romoff at the reception.

Best wishes to the couple, who I trust will live by the words of Kahlil Gibran:

But let there be spaces in your togetherness,

And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.

Year of the Pig

Many government officials are interested in getting some pork from the barrel to fatten their tummies. Could it be because 2019 is the Year of the Pig, or are they simply making pigs of themselves? Can’t help but recall the sarcasm in this expression: “How baboy naman the pig!”

Satire

As a yearend message, allow me to remind you, dear readers, that this last part of my column has always been a satire on high society’s foibles. People have taken offense on some of my commentaries, though these have never been personal.

Writing as Conde de Makati in pre-martial law years, I poked fun on the many eccentricities and frivolities of folks who moved around in high social circles, they whose lives depend on social happenings of the moment. Honestly I wrote about them with tongue-in-cheek humor.

I truly enjoyed hobnobbing with these folks. I grew up with their pizzazz, their audacity, their penchant for daring, their openness about themselves, and their oftentimes no-holds-barred conversations. Love them or not, their charm is undeniable.

For two generations, from Manila’s original 400, I covered them. In the photos, you will recognize many familiar names and faces.
