The Czech Embassy and Film Development Council of the Philippines will bring the Czech drama, “Little Girl Blue” (2007), awarded as the Best Film in Czech Lion Award of 2007, as the final installation for the yearlong “Czech Movie Gems” film festival.
Produced by Oscar-winning director Jan Sverák, the film written and directed by Alice Nellis is the poetic tale of Julie, a 40-year-old translator woman who, in the midst of an expansive mid-life crisis in the changing city of Prague, decides to buy a used piano for her vast living room.
Playing Julie is Iva Bittová, a Czech avant-garde violinist, singer and composer who started her career as an actress. Film also stars Karel Roden, a notable Czech actor successful both in his home country and Hollywood.
Film will be screened on Jan. 9, 6:30 p.m., at Cinematheque Center Manila, beside Casino Español de Manila on T.M. Kalaw Street, Ermita, Manila. Admission is free on a first-come, first-served basis, depending on capacity.
Sy at Alliance Francaise
Dexter Sy’s “Afterworld Obliteration” will open Jan. 17, 6:30 p.m., at Alliance Française de Manille Gallery (Nicanor Garcia Street, formerly Reposo, Makati City).
Sy is the 2017 recipient of AFM’s Philippine Artist Residency Program. The exhibition will feature the works he made during his residency at Centres Intermondes in La Rochelle, France.
