QUEZON CITY — Kimi Mugford, the youngest of the  2018 Miss World Philippines queens,  is set to embark on her journey to the 2018 Miss Multinational crown.

Not only does the 18-year-old singer carry the burden of securing a back-to-back victory for the Philippines in the India-based pageant, she also need to boost her batch’s record after two of her “sisters” went home empty-handed in their respective competitions.

Alyssa Muhlach failed to inherit the Reina Hispanoamericana crown from Filipino beauty queen Tereita Ssen Marquez when she missed the semifinals.

Katarina Rodriguez broke the Philippines’ seven-year streak in the Miss World pageant’s first cut when she failed to advance to the Top 30.

Mugford gained extra time to prepare for the pageant when the Miss Mutlinational finals was rescheduled and moved to a later date just like last year. The coronation night is now set for January 18.

She will fly to India on Jan. 9 to join more than 50 international delegates in the international pageant.

“I have been training until past midnight every night,” Mugford told members of the local media at her send-off press conference held at the pool bar of Novotel Manila Araneta Center in Quezon City, Tuesday afternoon.

“There is so much at stake in this victory. I will fight for the Philippines,” she said.

Filipino queen Sophia Señoron, the winner of the first Multinational pageant last year, will relinquish her title to her successor during the coronation ceremonies. /ee
