Classical singers may be at home with “La Boheme” and “Traviata” but they are not beyond singing love songs from the movies.
Tenor Nomher Nival, who is singing anew the role of Crisostomo Ibarra in a new production of De Leon’s “Noli Me Tangere” at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, said movies are pretty much part of everybody’s life and there is no escaping it even in the concert circuit.
Nival, along with sopranos Myramae Meneses and Nerissa de Juan will interpret songs from “Two for the Road,” “The Thomas Crown Affair,” “Umbrellas of Cherbourg,” “A Man” and “An Affair To Remember,” among others in a special Valentine concert on Feb. 14, at Canto guest house, 32 Kisad Road, Baguio City. The Valentine concert opens with a cocktail buffet at 6 p.m.
Said Nival: “Movies provide that certain alternate universe, like an alternate life that we get to enjoy. They somehow help us cope with our reality, even inspire us, motivate us and comfort us.”
Alternating artists on the piano are Kim Sarmiento and Gabby Paguirigan. —CONTRIBUTED
