A young boy from Argao, Cebu, earned the admiration and praise of thousands of netizens when a photo of him stopping along the road to pay homage to the Philippine national anthem circulated online.
A picture of the boy was recently shared on social media by a certain Glynis Amazona. Amazona was on her way to work when the bus she was riding stopped in front of the boy, who has since been identified as first grade student Jerick Caminero, as per The Freeman on Feb. 13. He attends Bogo Elementary School.
“I pray that every human will imitate you,” Amazona wrote. “You’re such an inspiration. On my way to duty and saw this kid in front of Bogo Elementary School.”

Amazona spotted the 9-year-old Caminero around 7 a.m. on Feb. 12. She told INQUIRER.net that Caminero stopped in his tracks and placed his right hand on his chest when he heard the national anthem play during a flag ceremony.
She shared that Caminero seemed conscious because a lot of vehicles stopped in front of him, but he was unfazed.
“Nakita ko pa nga po siyang tumingin s’amin kasi sa tingin ko nahiya siya kasi maraming sasakyan ang huminto sa tapat niya po,” Amazona told INQUIRER.net. “Pero di po sya nagpatalo sa hiya. Talagang tinapos niya yung kanta.”
She further said that while other students in uniform did not bother to stop for the national anthem, Caminero stood still and waited for it to finish. She also noted he was just wearing slippers.
“Hindi sya gumalaw. Samantalang yung ibang batang nalate na naka-uniporme, ni hindi nga huminto,” she said. “Natuwa lang po ako sa bata at naawa kasi naka-tsinelas siya at walang uniform.”
Amazona’s hope could not get any simpler: “Sana tularan siya ng iba.” Cody Cepeda /ra
