Nicanor S. Abelardo musical tribute at SPU Manila

St. Paul University Manila (SPU Manila), with the National Commission on Culture and Arts, present “Pagpupugay,” a tribute to Nicanor S. Abelardo on his 125th birth anniversary, on Feb. 17, 6 p.m. at the Fleur-de-lis Theater of SPU Manila, Pedro Gil Street, Malate, Manila.

Featured artists are the faculty and students of the SPU Manila Music Graduate School Program headed by Dr. Raul M. Sunico, chair of the Doctor of Musical Arts. With Dr. Sunico are Mary Anne Espina, Nenen Espina, Ronan Ferrer, Jonathan Velasco, Eugene de los Santos, Thea Perez, Elisanta Cortes, Hermenigildo Ranera (conductor) Gina Medina-Perez, Dino Decena, George Ong with Renato Lucas, secretary general of the National Music Competition for Young Artist; Proceso Yusi, Fely Ronquillo and Joy Allan dela Cruz.

Repertoire includes rarely played Sonata in A minor which was last played in 1932 in Chicago, USA; 10 famous Abelardo kundiman like “Mutya ng Pasig,” “Nassan Ka Irog,” etc. will be heard again.
