A couple in Berlin, Vermont, United States chose to get married at the place where their love story began — at a department store.
Joanne and William Boulanger got married at a Walmart department store where they first met, as reported by NBC Boston 10 last Thursday, Feb. 14. The couple also worked at the store as managers of different departments.
The nuptials, as documented by the store’s Facebook page, showed Joanne and William dressed in smart casual outfits instead of the usual bridal gown and tuxedo. The store’s assistant manager, Todd Soble, stood before them and served as minister in their wedding.
Since there was no altar, the couple got married by the store’s flower station.

The couple originally planned to get married at a courthouse. However, the store’s personnel manager offered for them to get married at the store instead.
The wedding also had a slight urgency attached to it since the groom is soon to leave for military service. The couple wished for the wedding to push through, therefore, despite the circumstances, as per NBC.
“Originally, it was supposed to be in the backroom in our break-room area, and last minute they were like, ‘Let’s do it out front where the flowers are,’” Joanne was quoted as saying in another report by Boston.com.
Joanne added that it was “a little nerve-wracking” because there were people everywhere.
“There was customers shopping and stopping and asking questions and, you know, taking pictures and videos,” she said in the report.
She and her groom also did not expect the attention they would receive; their video now has 160,000 views, as of writing.
“We were just doing it because it was fast, it was easy, it was convenient,” she added.
Both Joanne and William are planning a second ceremony later this year. Katrina Hallare/JB
