Jordan Clarkson told reporters after Monday’s loss to the Los Angeles Clippers that he hopes to suit up for the Philippine team in the Federation International Basketball Association (FIBA) World Cup happening this summer in China.

Clarkson obtained his Filipino passport when he was 16 years old, so, by FIBA standards, the 26-year-old is not a Filipino citizen. The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) is awaiting FIBA’s approval regarding Clarkson’s inclusion in the roster. As of press time, there hasn’t been any updates regarding his status.

Furthermore, SBP mentioned that they will be doing everything in their power to help Clarkson out. The SBP will also be appealing for 2017 Asian Games standouts Stanley Pringle and Christian Standhardinger.

Gilas Pilipinas (which is in Group D of the tournament alongside powerhouses Serbia, Italy, and Angola) would benefit from Clarkson if he gets the opportunity to don the blue and white jersey this August.
