PH women’s national football team outlasts Iran in AFC qualifiers

With this AFC qualifiers win, the women’s national football team earned their first three points of the second round and are now tied at the top with Chinese Taipei

The Philippine women’s national football team started the second round of the 2020 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Olympic qualifying tournament with a win after holding Iran scoreless on Wednesday night in Doha, Qatar.

Two of the goals were scored by Joyce Semacio and Alisha Del Campo in the second half of the game. With this win, the Filipina footballers earned their first three points of the second round and are now tied at the top of the ranks with Chinese Taipei.

In order to quality for the third round, the Philippines must outlast Taipei and finish on top in their group. If they do so, they will go up against Australia, China, North Korea, South Korea, and Thailand as they fight for a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The Philippines’ next match against Chinese Taipei will take place on Apr. 6, Saturday at the Grand Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar.
