TIP marks 50th year with book on teachers

MANILA, Philippines—A book paying homage to the teaching profession was recently launched by the Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) to commemorate its 50th founding anniversary.

The launch of “Teacher Teacher: A Tribute to Teachers Everywhere,” put together by author-editor Abe Florendo and featuring 30 essays by writers in the media, arts, and other professions, was held on Jan. 21 at the TIP campus in Quezon City.

It marked the first of a series of anniversary activities, which are to be capped with the International Conference on Outcomes-based Teaching and Learning on Feb. 16 and 17 at the same venue.

TIP was founded in 1962 by engineer Demetrio A. Quirino Jr. with his wife, Teresita U. Quirino, both classroom teachers themselves. From its humble beginnings, TIP has become, in the words of its president, Elizabeth Quirino-Lahoz, “a Filipino story of grit and determination.”
