Family night out at spruced-up Robinsons Galleria

People line up for Maxi Mango at Eat Street, Robinsons Galleria.

There are nights when it’s fine to take the family to a mall you’ve not gone to for a long time due to traffic and tight schedules.

In 1990, the vacant lot near the corner of Ortigas and Edsa —one of the key areas of the 1986 People Power Revolt—became the site of a new mall, Robinsons Galleria.

Twenty-nine years later, today, Galleria—Robinsons Land Corp.’s flagship mall—has been spruced up with new dining options, new beauty salons for women, and a new place to keep hyperactive kids busy.

The old food court on the ground floor, which looks brighter with a new lighting design, is now called Eat Street. Among the interesting stalls is Manilachon, which offers lechon. A long line of people leads to the popular dessert fare, Maxi Mango.

More food choices are found on Level 2, including Japanese brands I’ve been going to: Ramen Nagi (tasty noodles) and Kumori (soft bread and good coffee).

On Level 3 is a salon for women, Substance Laser & Skincare.

On Level 4, restless kids will have a great time at Playlab, described as a digital park with 14 interactive and educational games. The games fuse traditional playground and high-tech thrills via touch-screen monitors or projectors that induce creativity.

The family can have enough time for those if you go there in the afternoon. By night, there’s a choice of seven films simultaneously screening at Robinsons Movieworld.

And if the wife and kids are still game enough to go with you to unwind a bit before going home, take them to Maria’s, a restaurant and bar open 24 hours—a minute or two by foot from Robinsons Galleria.
