MANILA, Philippines — The Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) revealed on Monday the 40 official candidates for Binibining Pilipinas 2019 at the New Frontier Theater.

From 89 hopefuls, candidates were trimmed down to 40 after a rigorous screening process headed by BPCI chairperson Stella Araneta.

Titleholders in attendance at the candidates’ media presentation were Bb. Pilipinas 2018 Miss Supranational Jehza Huelar, Bb. Pilipinas 2018 Miss Grand International 2018 Eva Patalinjug, and the first ever Filipina crowned as Miss Intercontinental Karen Gallman.

“These ladies are gorgeous. I hope they will be able to surpass what our batch was able to fulfill and represent the Philippines the best way they could,” Huelar said of the candidates.

Huelar also gave this advice to the aspiring Binibining Pilipinas queens: “Just be yourself. Some girls need to loosen up. We understand this is a pageant and that they have to present themselves in a queenly manner. But they do not have to force it. It will come naturally. They should express themselves as naturally as they can, and just show their true attitude and personality.”

Patalinjug, likewise, was all praises for the 40 hopefuls, noting the morenas who were among the official candidates: “A lot of girls are unique and exotic. We’re very excited because there are a lot of exotic morenas.”

“Just be themselves, and enjoy the journey. Show the world — the universe rather — the essence of being a true Binibini,” Patalinjug added.

This year’s batch includes familiar faces like Vickie Rushton and Samantha Bernardo who finished last year’s pageant as first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively.

The aspiring beauty queens will vie for a crown in the most prestigious pageant in the Philippines and represent the country in the following international beauty pageants: Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss Supranational, Miss Grand International, Miss Globe, and Miss Intercontinental.

The coronation night will be held on June 9, 2019, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
