The Embassy of India hosted a reception for India’s 70th Republic Day at Makati Shangri-La.
The well-attended event also marked the 70th year of diplomatic relations between India and the Philippines.
The program featured a scintillating performance of Indian classical dance by visiting artist Amrita Lahiri, and a sitar performance by Ramprapanna Bhattacharya.
The highlight of the evening was the Indian Food Festival representing four cuisines— Rajasthani, Punjabi, Awadhi and South Indian.
In his speech, India Ambassador to the Philippines Jaideep Mazumdar mentioned the good relationship between the two countries. Indians are the fastest growing group of tourists. He eagerly anticipated the resumption of direct flights between Delhi and Manila by Philippine Airlines, as this will further boost tourism and business ties between the two countries.
Due to the significance of this year, a large number of cultural events, film and food festivals and other events are planned by the Indian Embassy throughout the year in Manila and other cities in the Philippines. –CONTRIBUTED
