Aliwan Fiesta, the annual festival of street-dancing, will be on April 25-27 at the Cultural of the Center of the Philippines (CCP) Complex.
Organized by the Manila Broadcasting Company, Star City and CCP, the festival brings together key street-dance contingents from all over the Philippines.
Competing in the dance category are the Bodong Festival of Pinukpok, Kalinga (represented by St. Teresita High School); Panagbenga Festival of Baguio City, Benguet (Baguio City National High School); Pangisdaan of Navotas (Hayuma Cultural Dance Troupe); Halamanan of Guiguinto, Bulacan; Dinamulag Mango Festival of Zambales (represented by Masinloc town); Niyognyugan of Quezon Province (Pagbilao town); Tayo na sa Antipolo Maytime Festival (San Jose National High School); Sambalilo of Cavinti, Laguna; Manggahan of Guimaras (Hubon Guimarasnon); Buraburon Festival of Burauen, Leyte (Tribu Buraburon); Pintados Kasadyaan of Leyte (represented by Pasaka of Tanauan); Meguyaya of Upi, Maguindanao (Sabaken National High School); Tarakuku of Mother Kabuntalan of Maguindanao (Kabuntalan National High School); and Kapatagan Festival of Kapatagan, Lanao del Sur.
Participating floats include YKalinga, Panagbenga, Palakaya of Navotas, Para Aqui of Parañaque, Bangka de Muntinlupa, Dayang Dayang of Pasay City, Singkaban of Bulacan, Halamanan of Guiguinto, Pamilya of Catanauan, Quezon; Masaya ang Pamilya sa Masayang Laguna of San Pablo City; Tagultol Fishing Festival of Atimonan, Quezon; IPI 60th Year-Sinulog-Cebu; Tacloban Through the Years; Panuluganen of Cotabato City; Siniratan a Laminan of Sultan Kudarat; Meguyaya Festival of Upi, Maguindanao; Kapasiti a Lemba of Mother Kabuntalan, Maguindanao; Kuyog a Kang’lal of Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao; Sarimanok of Kapatagan, Lanao del Sur; and Palabuni-bunyan of the Autornomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.
During the three-day festival, there will be a bazaar along Sotto Street at the CCP Complex, and a Pasakalye concert featuring Ben and Ben, Juan Karlos, This Band, and Extreme Lab. On April 26, there will be the Reyna ng Aliwan Pageant at Aliw Theater.
On April 27, the festival will culminate in the grand parade and street-dance showdown, which kicks off at Quirino Grandstand at 4 p.m., traversing Roxas Boulevard and reaching the CCP Complex, where the warding ceremonies will be held at 9 p.m. —CONTRIBUTED
