‘Last Full Show’ at Sining Kamalig | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

“Last Full Show” is the closing show of the legendary Sining Kamalig Gallery, in existence for almost half a century. Founded in the early 70s by sisters Vida Balboa and Corito Kalaw, Sining Kamalig was a vanguard of Philippine contemporary art. It encouraged the exploration of nontraditional and experimental art, as evidenced by their support of “Shop 6,” an art group spearheaded by the late Roberto Chabet, whose barrier-breaking concepts paved the way for the eventual acceptance of works previously deemed provocative and unacceptable to the public sensibility.

Participating artists are: Pandy Aviado, Tikoy Aguiluz, Yob Achecruz, Heber Bartolome, Jeff Dizon, Hermisanto, Raul Lebajo, Cid Reyes, Mario Patdu, Bong Paz, Riche Yee, and Roy Veneracion.

Sining Kamalig Gallery is at the Upper Ground Floor, Ali Mall, Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City.

Legacy

The Visual Arts Guild is holding “Romancing with Light” at the Legacy Art Gallery. The show will open May 2.
Participating artists are: Romulo Galicano, Dante Silverio, Ed Lantin, Gig de Pio, Junn Rocxa, Romeo Ballada, Julz Punzalan, Horace Gillego, Otto Neri, Maridi Nivera, Rellie Liwag, Lita Wells, Tina Periquet, Tessa Mendoza, and Cesar Aljame. Guest artists are: Andi Cubi and Clint Normandia.

The artists investigate and explore the force and mystery of light, and how its luminous emanation and vibration through colored pigments heighten our awareness and appreciation of reality even as it intensifies emotion and gives shape to landscape, still life, portrait, or nonphysical, abstract realms.
“Romancing with Light” will run until June 6. —CONTRIBUTED
