In Conde Nast Traveler’s (CNT) February 2019 Readers’ Choice Awards, El Nido Resorts in Palawan ranked fifth among the “Top 24 Best Island Beaches in the World.” Five years ago, it won Hospitality Destination of the Year at the 2014 Asia CEO Awards.
Now, aside from its four island beaches—Miniloc, Lagen, Apulit and Pangulasian—El Nido Resorts has opened Lio Beach.
Ten Knots Philippines, developer of El Nido Resorts and subsidiary of Ayala Land Inc., has been promoting responsible tourism and stewardship of the natural environment, and local community engagement in managing the beaches.
For Gen Z, its target market, Lio Beach is a fine example of sustainable tourism. The shops sell locally sourced products, including packaging materials.
Merchandise made from seashells are prohibited, and a no-plastic policy is being enforced.
To be You had a glimpse of paradise in Lio Beach. Here’s a quick visual guide on what to do and which places to check out.
Kalye Artisano
This was To be You’s second visit to Kalye Artisano. We were there last year with Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray.
Kalye Artisano is a venue for workshops, art exhibits and events conducted by Palawan artists. The place promotes arts and crafts, giving locals the opportunity for sustainable livelihood.
Jungle Bar by Piopio
One of Lio’s newest beach-front attractions, Jungle Bar, has a vibrant island vibe. Its interiors made of bamboo, rattan, banig, wood and rope are all locally sourced, and reflects the country’s rich culture and heritage.
The bar’s design is a collaboration between Sangay Architects, Jungle Bar manager Eduardo Miras, and Bea Zobel.
Jungle Bar serves food and beverages using ingredients from local farms. Its menu varies, depending on what’s in season, a gesture of respect for the land and sea.
