Every good dessert deserves another helping. Great ones deserve even more.
In the case of Inquirer Lifestyle’s best-selling “Best Desserts” book, a fifth is in order.
The much-awaited book and ultimate list will be launched on June 3, 4 p.m., at SMX Convention Center, SM Aura, Taguig City.
Like in the previous launches, which spawned a phenomenon in the local food landscape, there will be free samplings of the featured desserts in the book authored by Inquirer Lifestyle food writer Vangie Baga-Reyes.
Alya Honasan edited the 132-page book, with photographs by Leo Sabangan II and layout by Riki Velarde. Inquirer Lifestyle editor Thelma Sioson San Juan wrote the foreword.
San Juan wrote, “‘Best Desserts’ was just a story/listing we asked to meet the Filipinos’ growing love for home-made desserts, and the Filipino homemaker’s entrepreneurial streak that turned skill and passion into a prosperous enterprise.”
About 120 desserts made it to “Best Desserts” Book 5, created by 90-plus bakers and pastry chefs. There are entries from the far corners of the country, such as Zamboanga’s Ube Cake, Cebu’s Mango Rose Tart and Yema Cake and Bacolod’s Sans Rival Negrense.
But this edition is heavy with visually stunning cakes, including glazed mirror cakes. There are also different takes on the classic ensaymada and ube-flavored desserts.
Healthy options are also featured as well as good old choco-chip cookies.
“Best Desserts” Book 5 will be on sale onsite. Proceeds from the entrance fees will be donated to Gota de Leche Foundation. The launch is in partneship with SM Aura.
