As you may have surmised, I’m always very specific about every room in my home. When I entertain, I have a certain routine to follow. That’s also why I love buying different flatware.
This is also true when it comes to the powder room. I think the powder room should feel like a hotel. It’s welcoming and relaxing. It also shows how truly considerate you are of your guests.
Aside from the basics, I have a few particular products that are available for use in my powder room.
I have strike-anywhere matches. It’s for when you want to light a candle to help neutralize odors.
I take it a step further by having a bottle of Aesop Post-Poo Drops. It gives off a pleasant scent of citrus peel and discreet florals.
I provide a big tube of L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream. I believe that moisturizing your hands is just as important as washing them. This hand cream is made of honey, almond and coconut oil, so it provides deep hydration, a true treat for your guests.
For my handwash, liquid options in dispenser bottles are easier and much more sanitary. I have a bottle from Ritual, which is refillable, so there’s my small effort to be eco-friendly.
A fragrance is also good to keep by the sink. It gives your guests and yourself an easy way to spruce up. I like most perfumes that have a fresh, powdery scent so it’s not too strong.
I also leave other fragrance bottles in the powder room, as they also serve as decor.
Free samples
What to do with the free toiletry samples you get from your purchases? I gather them in a big container, so people can use them or even take one or two in a real emergency: sachets of lotion, handwash, hotel packets of cotton buds, etc. It’s also a smart thing to have when you have sleepovers.
Floor mats are also important. For me, it’s a way to add color to your usual floor tiles. You can even buy different designs to suit the mood of your party or just your personal feeling. I get mine from H&M, as they always come up with new and trendy designs at an affordable price.
I encourage you to enter your powder room and reimagine it. Rethink what you have and see what you can improve on. It’s a design opportunity, full of exciting possibilities.
