Father’s Day is just around the corner. In celebration of this special day, we list a few fun ways on how to celebrate the event for the man of the house. From creating customized gifts to preparing activities that he’ll enjoy, here’s a rundown of what our fathers would truly love and appreciate.

1. Buy him one of his favorite things and include a handwritten letter

It’s easy to discount the value of writing letters in our age of instant communication. You may be sending regular texts or FB chat messages to your dad on his smartphone, checking up on him when he’s not home late at night. But nothing beats the old-school way of writing him a handwritten letter.

Share your deepest thoughts and your childhood memories of your father, like when he used to sit you atop his shoulders in Malabon Zoo, letting you watch a giant python devour a hapless chicken – which was his own way of teaching you the value of compassion, while being aware of and unnerved by the brutal facts of life. Also, cap the evening by giving him a bottle of his favorite Islay single malt Scotch whisky – go for the ultra-smoky, peaty, leather notes of a 16-year-old Lagavulin or the fresh, briny, iodine notes of a 10-year-old Laphroaig. If you’re father’s an Islay whisky guy, you’ll never go wrong with both single malts.
