What is Lena Dunham’s new HBO show about?

Lena Dunham just moved to Wales in the UK, which she described as a “dreamy place with fairytale gardens, super sweet humans, and dragon mythology.”

What exactly is she doing in Welsh country?

Turns out Dunham directing a new HBO show, and shooting will take place in Cardiff during the summer.

And, no, it’s not a Girls sequel.

In a tweet Dunham announced that the new show, Industry, will be about the “cutthroat world of international finance.”

She described it as “Wolf of Wall Street meets Melrose Place.

According to Variety, “The show follows a group of young graduates competing for a limited set of permanent positions at a top investment bank in London.

“The boundaries between colleague, friend, lover and enemy soon blur as they immerse themselves in a company culture defined by sex, drugs and ego as well as deals and dividends.”

Last year, Dunham and close collaborator Jenni Kroner announced their breakup.

Their last project together was HBO’s Camping, starring Jennifer Garner. Inarguably the show never really picked up the way Girls did.

Critic Ben Travers on IndieWire called the show “more snores than s’mores.”

He wrote, “Jennifer Garner gets a merit badge for trying, but there’s little else to celebrate in this aimless adventure.”

With Industry, Dunham seems to be laying off the familiar Dunhamesque comedy that we all so love and hate.

All things considered, the amalgam that is Lena Dunham, Wales, and international finance is a fascinating cocktail I’m looking forward to sample. —JG
