From Lady Gaga to Madonna: Unique stories behind celebrity beauty brands

I wonder where our culture is heading now that every other celebrity has a beauty line. I believe it’s only going to be more exciting.

Every celebrity-owned beauty label has its own story.

Go gaga over Haus Laboratories by Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga’s Haus Laboratories

Lady Gaga launched this month her Haus Laboratories beauty line, on preorder exclusively via Amazon.

The ads and the teaser video reveal how the brand follows Gaga’s uniquely wild and fun aesthetic. It’s a beauty brand that encourages you to play by your own rules.

The initial launch consists of three products: RIP Lip Liner, Le Riot Lip Gloss and Glam Attack. The third is a highlighter with a liquid-to-powder consistency. These products are multiuse and promise to be “show-proof” —which can be expected from Lady Gaga, who wears makeup that lasts the night.

Something from Jessica Alba’smakeup kit: Magic Balm

Jessica Alba’s The Honest Co.

Jessica Alba’s The Honest Co., on the other hand, is a story of quiet success.

A decade ago, the actress co-founded the brand that focuses on chemical-free products.

But at first, it didn’t take off. There were a lot of lawsuits and hiccups along the way.

Ten years later, however, Honest Beauty is now a billion-dollar company.

Some popular picks include Magic Beauty Balm which provides hydration for lips, cuticles and even elbows. You can also use it to pull off the glossy eye shadow trend.

Honest also carries baby products, vitamins and self-care solutions.

Fenty Beauty’s Chill Owt Collection is all about risk-taking.

Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty

I can’t do this list without lauding Fenty Beauty.

Rihanna’s makeup brand made waves by introducing an inclusive line. It rolled out 50 shades of foundation when it started. Ditto for the Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer.

Every season, Fenty Beauty comes out with various theme collections to help users get out of their comfort zone. She introduced Killawatt Freestyle Highlighters in baby pink and baby blue.

Her Chill Owt Collection boasted of lip crayons with frosted finishes.

There is also the Getting Hotter Collection with neon lipsticks called Poutsicle, and vivid eyeliners in the shades Baeside, Baecae and Baewatch.

Madonna’s MDNA Skin

I’m curious about Madonna’s beauty line, MDNA Skin. It seems like a premium experience with a promise of the fountain of youth.

This skincare brand pioneered the Madonna Facial, a luxury facial that guarantees youthful skin.

MDNA has the Skin Rejuvenato, a special device with a magnetic head and an infusion head. Ideally, you use it with the Chrome Clay Facial. The magnetic head removes the mask magnetically.

The infusion head uses the Deep Derma Infusion, which combines four different signals (infusion pulse, reset pulse, treatment pulse and micro oscillation) to get more firm and resilient skin.

Drew Barrymore’s Flower Beauty is all about empowering women.

Drew Barrymore’s Flower Beauty

On the more affordable front, there is Flower Beauty. Drew Barrymore’s makeup line is often a vlogger pick for its wide range of wearable and relatable products. It goes well with Barrymore’s image.

According to the website, Flower Beauty is built on the actress’ “straightforward, no-nonsense philosophy of empowerment: that women everywhere deserve the best quality, most efficacious products at an affordable price.”

All the products are cruelty-free, available at Walmart and Ulta Beauty in the United States.

A popular product is the Kiss Me Twice Lip & Cheek Chubby.  A multiuse stick, it’s great for those who don’t want to deal with a lot of makeup. You can just dab and blend it with your fingers.

These are but a fraction of many celebrity beauty lines out there. I’m sure that there’ll be a lot more coming soon.
