Most Filipinos, especially in the urban areas, don’t consider dreams important enough to be given attention to.
Dreams are just dreams, they say. They don’t mean anything.
But in biblical times, dreams were considered to have important meanings, and those who could interpret dreams were greatly admired, even invited by kings.
Dreams are usually symbolic and, therefore, need to be interpreted or analyzed to reveal their true meaning. A dream is a message from our subconscious mind, which comes only when we are asleep, when our conscious, critical mind is not active.
A dream may be about events in the past, present, or future. It may even be about events in the past life of a person. It is possible for us to instruct our mind to give us a dream to solve a specific problem that’s bothering us.
Favorite earrings
A female student of mine lost her favorite earrings. She kept thinking where she had placed them, but couldn’t find them. One night, she dreamt of where it could be found—it was in a bag she would not have thought of looking in.
Swindler
When he was a college senior, my son, Jolan Alexander, was swindled of P150,000. He and a female classmate invested in a T-shirt-printing project for a politician.
The swindler disappeared after receiving a huge downpayment. One night, my son dreamt that the swindler would park at McDonald’s on Paseo de Roxas in Makati at 12 noon on a certain day.
My son went to the parking lot at 11:30 a.m. At about 12 noon, he saw the swindler parking his car near his. My son called the police and the swindler was arrested. He recovered his investment, thanks to his dream.
Affair
Sometimes, a dream may come in your sleep even if you are not thinking of a particular problem. Your subconscious mind, perhaps, just wants you to know something important.
For example, in 1989, I wrote about a woman who dreamt her husband was having an affair with another woman, but she ignored it, thinking it was only a dream.
She said, “I would be having dreams of my husband making love with another woman. I even saw the house they spent their illicit romance in. I also saw that the other woman had a baby by my husband.
“I never paid much attention to these, thinking they were merely dreams, until my father-in-law confirmed it.”
Signals
During our waking state, our intellect or rational mind screens communication from the higher realms, from our subconscious mind. That’s why we are not aware of such signals.
When we are asleep, our conscious rational mind is also asleep. That’s why signals or information from the deepest aspects of our mind, from our subconscious, are able to get through.
In our subconscious state, we are connected to everything else. Our subconscious has knowledge of the past, present and future. Time, as we know it, exists only on the physical plane.
We can program or give instructions to our mind to give us a dream that will solve a particular concern or problem we may be faced with.
How can we do this? Before going to sleep, in the state between waking and sleeping (technically called the Theta level of our brain waves), tell your subconscious mind that you will have a dream that will contain a solution to the problem, remember it, and understand it.
Repeat this instruction as many times as you can, until you fall asleep. Trust your subconscious mind, and it will do wonders for you.
