New talents spotted at Benilde’s ‘Altered Translation’

Every year, graduating students of fashion design at De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (DLS-CSB) present their works in a show dubbed “Sinulid.” It’s a much-awaited event, especially for To Be You, which is always on the lookout for new talented designers. In fact, it has become a tradition for this section to highlight the works of the most promising from the batch.

This show, held July 18 at SM Aura’s Samsung Hall, showcased the creations of 50 graduating students who used beads, plastic, metal and wood to interpret the theme “Altered Translation.”

They also employed different textiles and experimented on techniques like fabric manipulation, burning, painting, dyeing, and weaving, to name a few.

Renowned fashion designer Lulu Tan-Gan, DLS-CSB Fashion Design and Merchandising Program chair Christine Benet, and noted fashion designers and merchandisers André Chang, Carl Jan Cruz, Chris Diaz, John Herrera, Joel Escober, Pinky Tugas and Jerome Salaya-Ang served as mentors to the upcoming designers.

Take a look at some of the most outstanding works of the aspiring designers.
