How about we… find each other?

When I was younger, I’d always pretend to be into what my crushes were into. I dated a guy who loved going to the beach and gushed about how I loved the beach, too. Now that I’m older, wiser (not really) and too tired to play mind games, I’m ready to admit that I really hate the beach. I hate getting sand on my nether regions, I hate the way the saltwater turns my hair sticky and I hate how my skin turns gray and not golden brown when under the sun. My dislike of the outdoors obviously makes me an unsuitable companion for a guy whose idea of fun is going up a mountain peak, but I’d be perfect for a dog-loving, mall-going couch potato.

I’m sure I’m not alone in pretending to like stuff a potential date likes because a dating social network called “How About We” puts people together based on shared interests in common activities.

The premise is simple—your status update is always an invitation in the form of a “How about we…?” date suggestion. You can go through the profiles of people who share the same interests as you, connect with them, make plans to go out and presto, you’ve got a date doing something that you truly like with someone who likes doing what you like. You can get as creative and specific as you like (How about we eat buttered popcorn flavored jelly beans at the park while reading Archie comics?), too, to increase the chances of finding that great date waiting to happen.

Even if you end up not hitting it off with your online date du jour, you’re bound to at least make a good friend, thanks to the like meeting of minds.
