“Three Maidens” by Nap
Limaten

Sculptor Nap Limaten’s exhibit, “The Lightness of Being,” pays tribute to the female form, evoking its grace and dynamic beauty in material and style that combine solidity and dynamism.

Most of the metal sculptures are in rose gold, a delicate mixture of classic yellow gold, silver and copper metals with the silver and copper elements combining to create its pinkish hue. The color was prevalent during the Victorian era although its use at present is clearly meant to evoke nostalgia and romanticism, attributes of the feminine.

Nap Limaten (b. 1978) is a self-taught Filipino sculptor from Rizal province although he honed his craft in a small town in Benguet. Aside from metal and brass, Limaten is also skilled in wood, plaster of paris and wax.

Simultaneous with Limaten’s show is Katrina Cuenca’s “The Allure of Motion.” The exhibit of abstract paintings conjuring images of fins, petals and cloth floating through the wind evoke an otherworldly feel.

Cuenca’s images resonate with romance, vivid memories and abstracted dreams.

“Veiled Perception” by Katrina Cuenca

But like many abstract artists, Cuenca’s images are nature-based. “Creating imaginary figures that are seemingly suspended in air, merging the literal and the metaphorical, her paintings hover between pure abstraction and realistic landscapes,” said art writer Grace Ng. —CONTRIBUTED
