SHOPPING LIST: Cost-efficient beauty finds worth your payday weekend splurge

Ah, yes, the legendary payday weekend where all dreams come true. At least for a few days. And then we start dreaming of the next payday once again.

Now and again, I give into splurging during this period, especially with a few beauty and self-care finds that will last me through a season or two. Didn’t they say that one must always invest in yourself? Kidding, you should be responsible and invest in the right channels first!

Or at the very least, meet a balance by being smart about what you’re buying. Find products that give more for the price you’ll pay for them.

I find that switching to shampoo bars is one way to save on product and money, especially if you’re the type who gets carried away when squeezing your shampoo bottles. (I can never achieve that perfect peso coin size.) There is always Lush Cosmetics for this with variants like Avocado Co-Wash (cleanse and condition) and Seanik (with sea salt for instant beach waves). I have opted to try more indie options since I also want to contribute to local businesses.  You can try Skin Witch that I find very fragrant and doesn’t leave my hair dry or greasy. For those with color-treated hair, you can pick up Flecks Luthor from BeachBorn

On the makeup front, I’m happy to report that a few It-girl products of the moment are also budget-friendly. After testing out the L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise, I can say that it owns up to the hype. The mascara gives length and volume with just a few coats. I also like how it doesn’t make your eyelashes feel stiff. They are still soft to the touch which adds to that natural fluffy look. It’s also gym-proof!

For lipstick, you can switch up your every day nude with Lilac Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lip in Zahara. The orange-red pigment makes for an alternative to brown or taupe based nude lipsticks. The formula allows for it to dry down and stay on without flaking. It fades into a subtle tint throughout the day, so you don’t have to worry if you don’t get to re-apply. Right now, you can even get it on sale!

When it comes to the essentials, watch out for Aug. 20. That’s when Unilever and Lazada will be having the second round of their Shop2Give online event. Tagged #AddDreamstoCart, the collaboration means you can get up to 70 percent off on your vanity and bathroom needs and free shipping for purchases above P500.00 among other great deals. Plus, you’ll be doing some good as part of the proceeds made on this day shall be donated to UNICEF, helping around 800,00 children.

One item to consider adding to your cart is Dove Deodorant Dry Serum Intensive Renew. It’s a new approach given the formula which dries down instantly.  There are also skincare ingredients added to address various underarm concerns. The pink one has collagen and Vit. B3 which helps you say good-bye to dark spots. There’s the purple one which smoothens and firms underarm skin while the green one has  Vit.E to minimize underarm pores.

Whichever products you choose to spend on this weekend, make sure it helps you out as you work for that next paycheck!
