Landscapes evoke innerscapes in Raul Isidro’s ‘Colorati’

“Formation”

Raul Isidro’s abstracted landscapes are deeply personal reflections if not evocations of his hometown of Calbayog, Western Samar. The coastal town’s blue seas, natural colors that change from gray to green, and the reflection of the full moon at low tide, are characteristic images of his works.

Isidro heightens the colors and configurations even more in his newest exhibit at Galerie Joaquin U.P. Town Center, “Colorati,” in order to depict the force of nature. Images show a strong vertical geometry representing not only the heights of the mountains but also the force of gravity. As the artist explores the abstracted frontiers of nature, he requests the audience to view it as an ever-moving pattern that continues beyond the borders of the painting’s surface. Isidro uses large, irregular shapes to encapsulate this imagery more organically, as bright, striking fragments.

Pinkish hues, cerulean shades and earthen tones, meanwhile, connote various introspective moods.

The colors likewise capture and reflect both solidity and fluidity, imitating the changeable conditions of nature, and the shimmering potency of memories. They invite the viewers to connect with their own memories.

“Floating Spring”

A distinguished pioneer in abstraction, Raul Isidro declared that “art must be felt to be fully enjoyed.” His works attempt to connect with the viewer, and he has always encouraged art appreciation in the grassroots. By making a common reference to nature and its various moods and colors, he enthralls and engages with the audience. —CONTRIBUTED
