The Canada-bound Filipino theatrical production, “13th of September,” will have a series of benefit shows on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, both at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Zobel De Ayala Recital Hall, Maybank Theater, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
The play—written by Eljay Castro Deldoc and a reimagination of Lanie Robertson’s “The Insanity of Mary Girard”—is the Philippines’ official entry to the 9th Festival International de Théâtre de Mont-Laurier in Quebec, Canada.
It is based on the true story of Mary Girard, whose husband commits her to a mental asylum in Pennsylvania. While in confinement she gives birth to a baby girl who dies at five months old. Mary stays in the asylum for 25 years until her death.
Proceeds of ticket sales will go to the travel expenses of the cast and crew to the 9th Festival International de Théâtre de Mont-Laurier, to be held on Sept. 5 -11.
Only 25 companies from over 20 countries have been selected to join and present their plays at the biennial festival.
The Philippines is the only country from Southeast Asia that has joined the festival since its launch in 2003.
“13 of September,” directed by Riki Benedicto, is presented by Be Our Guest Theatricals, in partnership with BGC Arts Center and Erehwon Center for the Arts.
