U2 tickets: Avoid scalpers, ‘scam artists’
Tickets to U2’s concert at PH Arena go on sale Sept. 1-5.

MMI Live CEO Rhiza Pascua reminds everyone not to buy tickets from scalpers. “I also want to warn people that there are ‘scam artists’ who will post tickets for sale online,” she tells us. “After getting paid, they disappear. Wala pala talaga silang tickets na binebenta.”

More blues rock at Green Sun

I missed The Smoking Joint’s (TSJ) most recently produced gig at Green Sun which featured, in a rare appearance, Wally Gonzalez, with his Manila Blues Experience gang—Kat Agarrado, Louie Talan, Wowee Posadas and Wendell Garcia, drums.

But there’s another opportunity to catch some exceptionally good blues rock musicians on Sept. 14, also at Green Sun: The Bleu Rascals back-to-back with Pigdog.

TSJ regulars who have seen the Bleu Rascals will agree that guitarist Paul Marney Leobrera is perhaps the country’s best young bluesman.

But who’s Pigdog?

Pigdog’s Kowboy Santos, Miguel Ortigas, Beatrice Gomez, Johnny Besa, Tirso Ripoll

The five-member hard rock band is composed of guitarists Tirso Ripoll and Kowboy Santos, bassist Johnny Besa, drummer Miguel Ortigas, and vocalist Beatrice Gomez.

I’ve seen them play (except Gomez), but only in the past as members of Razorback (Ripoll, Ortigas) and The Breed (Besa).

Santos is a powerful addition, and, judging from a video posted online of the band doing a mean cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song,” it’s a given that Pigdog kicks ass.

What’s new at Club Mwah

Ethinic segment at Club Mwah show

The latest on Club Mwah, the one-of-a-kind cabaret revue destination in Mandaluyong, is that the coming opening of its comedy shows at Bisbar on the building’s ground floor.

Club Mwah boss Carlito Pocholo Malillin says Bisbar will feature some of the club’s famous divas on weeknights.

Club Mwah continues presenting its Vegas-inspired shows on weekends. On my last visit a few weeks ago, I took along friends Elwood Perez and Dr. Tito Garcia.

At another table sat fashion designer Mike dela Rosa with Lory Guidotti, Flo dela Torre and Pando.

That was a fun night.
