Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) Philippines expressed support for its head, Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas, and other bishops accused of sedition by the administration of President Duterte.
ACN, a papal charity, called the charges against the prelates “devoid of truth and justice, decency and respect for their human dignity… The bishops unjustly accused of sedition are exemplars of dedicated humble service to the well-being of the Filipinos as well as to so many humanitarian causes, proof of their undeniable love for the country.” The statement called on authorities to “wield justice with truth, the practice of law with integrity.”
Aside from Villegas, accused of sedition were Caloocan Bishop Pablo David, also the vice president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, Cubao Bishop Honesto Ongtioco and Novaliches Bishop Emeritus Teodoro Bacani.
ACN is an international Catholic pastoral aid organization with yearly financial support to more than 5,000 projects worldwide.
Marian seminar
Mary as a model of Christian discipleship will be the focus of the Marian Encounter Seminar Sept. 29, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., at the University of Santo Tomas Tan Yan Kee Student Center, España, Manila.
Speakers are Msgr. Claro “Matt” Garcia, Fr. Francis Gustilo, and Fr. Romerico Prieto. Eucharistic celebration will be presided by Fr. Mark Brian Adona, SSS.
The Missionaries of Mary is a lay Marian community that has been organizing the seminar three times a year. It also hosts “MOM On Air” broadcast over Radio Veritas (846 AM) every first Saturday, 8-9 p.m.
