Vegetable centerpiece

Layer elements starting with a wood charger. Lay an “anahaw” leaf, then your plate.

Here’s a centerpiece that’s easy to set up with items from your public market. Raise the local bounty—string beans, sili (red pepper), eggplant, ampalaya (bitter gourd), patola and flowers—and take it to another level.

Our avid reader-cum-caterer/stylist Jinky Sembrano gave us a live step-by-step on this beautiful spread.

Let’s start with the place settings.

Gather all vegetables and secure the smaller ones into bundles with rubber bands.
Start by putting the bigger vegetables into the long container. Build up from there by filling up the gaps with the flowers and berry-like blooms.
Finish off your setting with bright colored glasses (available at SM, Landmark, All Home, Rustan’s).
