Ever since its first release on PlayStation 2 in 2004, the Monster Hunter franchise captivated me with its action-packed gameplay. It was only after a year when I got my hands on a PlayStation Portable and purchased the 2005 Monster Hunter Freedom right away. Today, as the latest installment Monster Hunter: World is released on PC, I’m overwhelmed with excitement and nostalgia.

Compared to the 2007 Monster Hunter Frontier which was Japan exclusive, Monster Hunter: World brings the entire globe together. In the earlier series, the games were always initially released in Japan. Today also marks the first time Capcom is doing a worldwide simultaneous PC release.

On top of that, the new open world feature allows uninterrupted exploration without having to load each part of the map. This means I don’t have to wait to continue a journey. At the same time, I have less time to contemplate my next moves. While I find it challenging, it’s nevertheless exciting. There are no loading screens in real life anyway.
Due to the top-notch graphics, the game is quite demanding when it comes to PC specs. To be honest with you, I have been saving up for a high-end rig to specifically play this game. As someone who has always been a fan of the Monster Hunter franchise, I could say this is the most ambitious game they have done so far.
The developers expanded customization options compared to the preset-locked ones prior the latest installment. There are also events which include challenges, new monsters and bonuses. There’s even an option to call for help from anywhere around the globe.
A lot of things changed along the way, but what didn’t is the adrenaline from the hunt.
The monster-to-monster and human-to-monster interactions are made realistic. The monsters are actually hostile toward each other. Without a doubt, this game offers the ultimate hunting experience. It has been 10 years since I spent sleepless nights playing Monster Hunter as a kid. A lot of things changed along the way, but what didn’t is the adrenaline from the hunt.
Monster Hunter: World is available for pre-order via Steam for P1,599 with in-game bonuses. Monster Hunter: World Deluxe Edition is priced at P1,925 and comes with the same assortment of customization items in the console equivalent.
