By now, most people have been through the juice cleansing fad and back, and have set up three camps. The first group are people who are fanatic about cleansing and do it on the regular. The second are the ones who’ve tried it, hated it, and vowed to never go back. And the third group are people who’ve read every piece of literature on juice cleansing they could get their hands on and still remain on the fence. This piece is for that last group of people.
With the sudden proliferation of juice delivery services in the metro within the last two years, it’s hard to know which one will work best for you. Questions like, “Will this work for me because Bubbles Paraiso posted about it on Instagram?” are totally valid, but tiring. While we won’t take out the guesswork (that’s on you), what we can do is narrow down the best services in Manila, and list everything you need to know about each one.
Detoxify Bar
Carefully formulated by their resident nutritionist, Detoxify Bar’s menu of pesticide-free fruit and vegetable juices with no preservatives are pretty straightforward: They have vegetable juices like the Green Vegan Detox, which has malunggay, broccoli, and celery—the latter two are carefully measured, since they can spike uric acid levels if taken in excess. Root juices include the Gold Detox, combining raw ginger ale with chia seeds to boost immunity and aid digestion. They also have a selection of dairy alternatives in the form of Carob Nutmilk, a gluten-free alternative to chocolate milk, and Cinnamon Nutmilk. While flavors are generally agreeable, we would advise you not to chug the Lemon Detox, their version of the Master Cleanse because there’s enough cayenne pepper in there to make your ears burn.
Program: You can choose up to five bottles of their signature concoctions (Green Vegan Detox, Red Vegan Detox, Lemon Detox, and Minty Berry Detox). All juices are best consumed within 24 hours. Post-cleanse, you can head to Detoxify Bar outlets in Eastwood Mall in Quezon City or Tuscany Private Estates in Fort Bonifacio (with branches in Westgate Alabang and Shangri-La Plaza soon-to-open) for a selection of light, organic fare to ease you back into solid foods.
Add-ons: Every detox program comes with an Every Day Detox tea bag (for flushing toxins), a Smooth Move tea bag (a laxative), and a thermal bag for easy transportation.
Rates: Detoxify Bar sells their fruit and vegetable juices at P220 per bottle, while nutmilks are P165. A detox program with tea and a thermal bag is P1,350 per day, but you can opt to leave out the thermal bag and pay just P1,180. Without the tea and the thermal bag, it’s just P1,100.
